Batton Lash, who is doing the cover art for my Holly short story, has been very very very very very very very very very very very very helpful. Did I say very helpful? He’s been that. Look up his Wolff and Byrd comics, they are wonderful. http://www.exhibitapress.com/
First, the costume colors. I had thought that Holly would have blue costume and yellow cape, but he pointed out that there should be contrast with her hair. So I went with red for the cape.
Also, Holly’s logo. I had not even thought of one! Then I thought of a cross, or an “O”, or the Venus symbol, or some combination. I researched the O and cross thing, and guess what, nasty racist groups use that symbology (ugh, a Robert Langdon reference!).
But Lash had a great idea: an arrow, for the “my eyes are up here” gag. A yellow arrow should be Holly’s logo.
Here are a couple of Holly sketches from Batton Lash. I hope Holly sells, so Batton can get some credit. Well, he will get a little $$$ from me! Note that Holly has a Roman-type nose, even though she is Swedish-American. That is my idea. I do not want a perfect little cute face, I want a face with character. (I’ll be posting more pics later. But I’m tired, I spent all day thinking about Lash’s advice, and emailing him back.)
